Massage
Care of the body, and relaxation of the mind through massage is an ancient art, with its value proven over centuries for dispelling the cares and tensions of everyday life. Massage may be defined as manipulation of the soft tissues of the body performed by the hands, for the purpose of producing effects on the vascular, muscular and nervous system of the body.
The massage mostly practiced in the West is Swedish Body Massage. In this type of massage the strokes relate to the body’s circulatory and lymphatic system. Some of the benefits are that nerves are soothed and relaxed, whilst promoting a feeling of well being, reducing stress and releasing muscle tension. The skin becomes soft and pliable with an improved texture and muscle fibres are stimulated and strengthened.
Massage Therapy in all its forms has a role to play in many chronic conditions, particularly those that nobody understands. Conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis have no cure; the medical profession and drugs can do no more. By reducing muscle spasm and encouraging the body back into balance, other conditions may dissipate and disappear. Confidence returns, life improves and everyone around benefits.
Physiological benefits include; nourishment of the skin and all its structures, stimulation and strengthening of muscle fibres, blood and lymph circulation improvement, elimination of waste, increases glandular activity, pain relief, aids relaxation.
Depending upon the choice and combination of massage techniques the body’s system can either be relaxed or stimulated, and so it is both a useful and enjoyable form of therapy
